The Osun State Police Command, on Tuesday, said some miscreants were planning to cause crises in the state by using carnivals usually organised during the Yuletide as a cover.
The command consequently announced a ban on all carnivals in the state during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Folasade Odoro, advised parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against participating in any act capable of disrupting the public peace.
The statement also assured the residents that the command had put in place all necessary security measures to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
The statement read in part, “The intelligence available to the command reveals that miscreants, under the pretext of carnival activities, plan to carry out their nefarious activities.
“Therefore, in cognizance of the security consequences of this, the command is using this medium to inform the general public that there is a ban on all forms of carnivals.
“The Commissioner of Police advises members of the public, especially parents and guardians, to warn their children and wards to desist from any act that can jeopardise the peace of the state.
“Anyone caught or found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law. The good people of the state are enjoined to go about their legitimate business peacefully .”
