The government of the state of Oyo said on Saturday that it was not responsible for the delay in the funeral for the former state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Ajimobi died on Thursday.
But the ex-governor, who is a Muslim, has yet to be buried.
He is expected to be buried today, Sunday.
Many wonder why the funeral is delayed.
However, the state government, in a statement the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa said that the state government was not responsible for delaying the burial of the immediate former governor.
The statement described the rumor that the government was delaying burial because it was being spread to give the state government a bad name.
The truth is that the family contacted the state government through a proxy and applied for permission to bury the late governor on a property in Agodi GRA that is currently in litigation.
Adisa added that it can only be an evil lie to assume that the incumbent government in the state of Oyo tried to hinder the burial of the immediate former governor.
Adisa said, “Given the intense inquiries from media organizations regarding the perceived delay in the burial of the late former Oyo state governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Oyo government wants the rumor that this does not contain truth to be true that the funeral will be delayed by the state government.
“The rumor that was deliberately spread to give the state government a bad name and engage in inappropriate politics with the dead originally came about through social media gossip that resonated with the attention of traditional media outfits pull.
