The police on Tuesday arraigned a 38-year-old man, Afeez Owolabi in an Ota Magistrates ‘ Court in Ogun over theft of a Church Imex generator valued at N150,000.
Owolabi, whose address was not provided, would face two-count charge of stealing and burglary.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 15 at about 12.30 a. m. at Christ Gospel Witness Church, Atan, Ota.
Gbesi said that Owolabi was caught by security guards after breaking into a Church to steal an Imex generator.
The prosecutor added that the offences contravened Section 390(9) and 411 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Senior Magistrate, Mr G.E. Akan, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akan said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.
The magistrate also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government and adjourned the matter until Oct. 15 for further hearing.
