Police anti-cultism team attached to the Sapele police division in Delta state, in the early hours of Friday, arrested 10 suspected cultists accused of terrorising Sapele and its environs. Also arrested by the police were three car snatchers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, while confirming the arrest of the suspects to DAILY POST, said, “The police recovered from the cultists two cut-to-size guns including battle axes”, adding that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of the Eiye confraternity.
Speaking further, he said that the suspected cultists were arrested in two vehicles on their way for a revenge mission, adding that the police anti-cultism team, acting on intelligence, flagged the suspects’ vehicles and upon searching, recovered from the suspects battle axes, and cut-to-size guns.
Aniamaka said, “the suspects are all male, and upon interrogation, they confessed to be members of the Eiye confraternity who were going on a revenge mission. Sapele, Ibusa, Asaba, Okpanam communities have in the recent times been flash points for various cultists. The suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigation.”
