APC finally splits in Rivers as Senator Abe opens factional secretariat A group of protesters under the auspices of Forever Cross River, has protested at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), demanding that the party should not contemplate handing a second term ticket to Governor Ben Ayade.
The group on Thursday, August 16, in a petition addressed to the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, accused Ayade of derailing Cross River state.
The protesters led by John Offiong and Basset Ekpo Bassey, accused the governor of misappropriating the state’s resources through dubiously misconceived projects.
The group said the increasing insecurity in the state had reached an alarming rate and called on the party to ensure that Ayade does not emerge as the party’s candidate in the next election if PDP wants to win the state.
Meanwhile, political tension has gripped members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers as well as residents of Port Harcourt, the capital of the state, as a factional office of the party is scheduled for opening on Friday, August 17.
This comes barely a week after unknown persons attacked a parallel secretariat of the Rivers state the APC loyal to Senator Magnus Ngei Abe who represents Rivers south east senatorial district. The faction has announced its official opening to the public saying it would hold on Friday, August 17, at 9am.
