Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has reportedly halted a plot by Sulaiman Yusuf, the Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, to oust the council’s chairman, Tajudeen Ajide.
Newsbreak.nggathered that after learning of the plot, Ambode ordered his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Taofeek Folami to call Yusuf to order. Folami was said to have severely rebuked Yusuf and warned against igniting a fresh crisis in the council area.
Information available to this website has it that Yusuf, who is not on speaking term with Ajide, led the council’s nine councillors to pass a resolution compelling the latter to hand over to him. In the said resolution, the councillors, led by Segun Ibitola, alleged Ajide currently suffers ill-health and unfit for the rigour of office.
However, the councillors did not produce any valid medical report certifying their chairman (Ajide) unfit.
More so, a source told this website he had been privy to discussions where the idea of the resolution was mooted. The source averred it was a predetermined move and had the imprint of a party leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, who doubles as the Leader of the House of Representatives.
“Gbajabiamila is the one instigating Sule and others. Yussuf is Gbajabiamila’s boy, who he made vice chairman for the second time. He dare not make any move except our leader (Femi Gbajabiamila) directed such”, the source said.
The source recounted how Gbajabiamila similarly plotted Ajide’s removal during his first term, in 2014.
“It was the same Sule Yussuf that was the vice chairman at the time, and Segun Ibitola was the leader, as he currently is. At the time, Yussuf and councillors wrote a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alleging that Ajide defrauded the council. But the EFCC found nothing”.
He continued: “They also raised the same allegation before the Lagos state House of Assembly, which made investigation into the allegation, and still found nothing,” he said.
“We are appealing to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Prince Tajudeen Olusi and other leaders to prevail on Gbajabiamila and Yussuf to give peace a chance in Surulere Local Government”.
