The Lagos Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, on Tuesday, urged the state government to keep supporting the activities of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators.
They made this known while staging a protest at the Lagos State Government House, Alausa.
Recall that it was earlier reported that the National President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo said the TUC had employed all the necessary tools of engagement for amicable resolution, including writing letters and holding meetings with the Lagos State government on the issue, adding that the RTEAN also went to court and got a judgment from the National Industrial Court which said the state government had no powers to proscribe a trade union legally registered by the Federal Government.
In a statement obtained by our correspondent, the Lagos State NANS Chairman, Idris Alimi, said the establishment of LASPAGA has fostered peace in students’ communities and has created employment for graduates in the state.
He said, “The collaboration between the students’ leadership and LASPAGA over sometime now has not just ensured security of lives and property, but it has also created jobs for a number of graduates hence alleviating poverty and reducing the unemployment rate.
“The establishment of LASPAGA by our ever-listening Governor, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has significantly touched the lives of students in our dear state.
“We believe that empowering LASPAGA over RTEAN will underscore your dedication to the well-being of Lagosians and your commitment to effective urban management which by extension sends a strong message that safety, order, and the rule of law is paramount in Lagos State.”
Also, the NANS leadership noted that the embattled Chairman of RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Mohammed wreaked havoc with the union in school areas in the state and it called on the leadership of TUC to respect the court order.
“The chaos experienced under the leadership of the defunct led by Alhaji Musa Mohammed leadership, did not only cause untold trauma and shooting of guns around the school environment but it brought retrogression and endangered the lives of the students living within and outside school campuses.
“Issues surrounding the establishment of LASPAGA and the back and forth of RTEAN on this matter are already in the court of law, why should the leadership of TUC and its cohorts not respect the proceedings of the law?”
