Former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani, representing the Western senatorial district in the Senate has finally stepped down for his ‘godson ‘Governor Abdul Aziz Yari of Zamfara State to contest the seat in 2019 general elections.
Yarima who has been in the Senate for over one decade is in the same senatorial district with the incumbent governor Yari.
Indications emerged on Sunday when the governor met with APC stakeholders across the state and announced that the state Commissioner for Finance, Muktar Idris, has been picked as the party’s consensus candidate for the governorship.
Thereafter, he reeled out other names as the party’s flagbearers for the House of Representatives and the Senate.
He said while serving Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura was the consensus candidate for the Northern senatorial district, former minister of state, Ikira Bilbis was the consensus candidate for the Central senatorial district.
The governor told the caucus that he was the consensus candidate for the western senatorial district, saying, our leader Yarima has decided to leave the seat for me. I thanked him for the kind gesture.
Since 1999, the western senatorial district has produced two senators, Senator Yushau Anka (1999-2007)and Senator Ahmed Sani( 2007-2019).
