A road accident involving two trucks and a fully loaded fuel tanker on the Kara bridge resulted in a massive traffic gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway inland and outbound lanes.
Two people were injured in the incident that happened about 1.45am Friday.
A part of the bridge has currently been cordoned off while trans-loading of fuel is underway.
In June, the Federal Ministry of Works shut down a part of the outbound Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to allow the ministry to carry out an integrity test on the infrastructure and determine its serviceability.
This move came on the heels of several incidents occurring over time on the bridge.
In a letter to the government of Lagos State requesting its assistance in carrying out the construction, the ministry clarified that the contractor managing that portion of the expressway asked for the bridge to be shut down to facilitate the project.
