The mother of Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former Queen of Ooni of Ife, has made an emotional plea for help following her daughter’s remand in Agodi prison. Naomi, alongside the owner of Agidigbo FM, Mr. Hamzat Oriyomi, and the Principal of Islamic School, Bashorun, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, was arraigned on charges related to the tragic stampede that claimed the lives of 35 minors last Wednesday.
In a heart-wrenching video, Naomi’s mother, visibly distraught and in tears, insisted her daughter’s innocence, pleading with Nigerians and the world for mercy and support. “Please, the world, help free Naomi, she is very innocent,” she cried.
The three individuals are facing four charges, including conspiracy, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security at an event that led to the deaths. They have been remanded in prison until January 13, awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
While the defense counsel argued for police custody instead of prison, Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi upheld the remand order. Seven suspects were initially arrested, with five later released.
The incident, which also saw both Naomi and Oriyomi hospitalized, has sparked widespread outrage. Governor Seyi Makinde has vowed a thorough investigation into the matter, promising that those found responsible will face legal consequences.
