With no access to essential supplies such as food, water, or a place to rest, the situation escalated, and the players endured an additional three-hour road journey to reach the match venue.
Sani expressed his outrage in a tweet, labelling the treatment of the Super Eagles as “unacceptable and condemnable.”
He insisted that both FIFA and CAF should take immediate action to sanction Libya for the incident. Nigerian authorities, including Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, also condemned the incident.
She described the team’s ordeal as deplorable, pointing to the dangers of road travel in Libya and calling for action to ensure the team’s safety.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) reportedly faced significant obstacles in trying to provide alternative arrangements for the stranded team.
