Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, (CP) Murtala Mani on Tuesday assured that all measures has been reviewed to ensure peaceful electioneering period as 2019 draws nearer.
The CP who reminded politicians and stakeholders to be more concern about sustaining the existing peace in the state further admonished them to play according to the rule of the game
According to CP Mani, interacting with political actors at this time is very crucial hence, they along with the electorate play active role in the game.
While appealing to parties to notify the police ahead of any political gathering, Mani cautioned them against hate speeches either in song, rally or social media before, during and after electioneering period.
The CP also advised political actors in Sokoto to eschew henceforth from the habit of equipping youths with dangerous weapon which they brandished in their rallies.
Speaking on his part, Sokoto state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar Musa divulged that about one million, nine hundred and fourteen thousand, four hundred and fourth four (1,914, 444) eligible voters have so far being registered in Sokoto.
Musa also noted no fewer than 1,559,133 persons have so far collected their PVCs, just as he appealed to electorate to come and collect the 98,599 PVCs left in their respective offices across the state.
The REC further commended Sokoto saying is one of the states that always have rancor free pre and post election challenges hence he was the REC in 2015 as well.
Earlier, the State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Alhaji Abubakar Modi Danchadi appealed to politicians to kindly stop breeding thugs who have no electoral value but destructive tendencies.
Danchadi further advised politicians to help inculcate good morals, discipline and training into the youths so as to enable them become better citizens.
All political parties in the state were represented and were eventually made to sign a peace pact ahead of the forthcoming electioneering period.
