Suspected Boko Haram militants killed nine people and abducted dozens more in an attack Sunday night in southern Niger, the local mayor and a journalist said on Monday.
The attackers arrived in the village of Ngalewa on camels at around 9 p.m. (2000 GMT) and abducted some 30 people, the journalist said. Abba Gata Issa, mayor of the district, said around 40 women and children had been kidnapped.
