An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has died as a result of the bombing of three power transmission towers by terrorists along Maiduguri-Damaturu, the Transmission Company of Nigeria announced on Friday.
The General Manager of Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, adding that the bomb blast occurred on Thursday following a similar incident that occurred last week.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby confirms the destruction of three of its towers along Maiduguri-Damaturu Transmission Line with explosives yesterday, December 28, 2023.
“In addition to the destruction of the three towers, the very sad incident also cost the life of an NSCDC officer. It is truly another very sad day for us at TCN, with this incident, especially with the loss of life of the NSCDC official.
“TCN commiserates with the family of the deceased and the NSCDC for this very sad and shocking incident,” Mbah said.
Meanwhile, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, in a post on his verified X handle, on Friday, said the security operative, identified simply as Nurudeen, died after he stepped on a minor line while inspecting the vandalised electricity tower.
In a series of posts, along with a photo of the deceased at the scene of the incident, Makama wrote, “The Nigerian Civil Defence personnel, Nurudeen, paid the supreme price as a result of the bomb explosion which brought (down) three power towers along Jakana-Auno in the early hours of today 28/12/2023,
“This was the last photo of Nurudeen, the NSCDC personnel who stepped on explosives at the scene of the vandalised electricity tower. If you look critically, there was a tiny line across the path, attached to both components on his left and the right-hand sides, I guess that was the trigger,” he added.
