In a nation where enough is not done to sensitize people about the risks and dangers associated with the monstrous disease called cancer which has in no small measure accounted for countless deaths and unnamed agonies for loved ones, it is to this end, that the Obi Ikenchukwu Foundation (OIF) and Guiding Light Assembly (GLA) are collaborating on further raising the awareness levels about the cancer scourge.
Whilst a few organizations have done their bit to raise cancer awareness in the past and it was very much appreciated, the Obi Ikenchukwu Foundation feels the need to take this giant stride a little further by collaborating with the Guiding Light Assembly, a church renowned for its deep interest in the welfare of the vulnerable in our society and concerns for victims of cancer and their families, in bringing about the Walk Against Cancer scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Ikoyi, Lagos. It is hoped that through this collaboration, others including religious organisations will begin to see the need to look out for one another and to use that opportunity to spread the WORD about the LOVE of God even in our nation.
The cancer walk is dedicated to the memory of Princess Patricia Ikenchukwu, Founder of Health Freedom Africa and sister of the OIF Founder. The take-off point would be the premises of the Guiding Light Assembly, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Speaking on the WALK, the Founder of the OIF, Princess Genevieve Ikenchukwu had this to say:
‘’I have been directly impacted by this dreadful disease having recently lost a sister to it in January of this year. Also, as a Christian (and this is very important), I feel a deep sense of responsibility towards its victims in our society particularly the children. It is in my opinion not good enough to pray for people in this situation but in addition to our prayer there must be a corresponding action for effectiveness. In order to reflect the love of God/Christ more effectively therefore, we must be seen not only to be speaking the Word but also doing it. This is the essence of the OIF WALK AGAINST CANCER. It is our prayer that by this action, we are able to touch lives and that the love of God is reflected through our action”.
Participation for the walk is free and prospective participants are required to register online at http://bit.ly/2xfuTX6
Also, T-shirts for the WALK are now on sale and a percentage of the proceeds of the shirts would go to a named Cancer Organization for Children.
The Obi Ikenchukwu Foundation (OIF) is a charitable organization set up to give succour and comfort to the orphans and female victims of violence in our midst, particularly the girl child. The Foundation also promotes Arts and Culture also amongst the youth.
