TV Continental, a highly- rated 24-hour tv channel, has reportedly sacked 145 members of its staff and rested one of its major arms, this morning.
The management of the media outfit, believed to be owned by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Friday delivered the bombshell to the members of staff after a general meeting with the company’s staff in Lagos.
The affected staff, it was learnt, includes outstation reporters across the 36 state of the federation, as the company had bureau offices in virtually all the states in Nigeria.
The outstation workforce were said to be among those that were in the Friday meeting as some of them reportedly arrived the Lagos headquarters on Thursday, only for them to be given the bombshell on Friday.
A top official of the organisation, who disclosed the information to New Telegraph insisted that the restructuring was long overdue, lamenting that the company was paying a staggering N200 million every month as wages and salary.
A visit to the area by our correspondent showed an unusual presence of policemen, who were believed to be hanging around the vicinity on the orders of the company’s management for fear of a backlash from the sack action.
Meanwhile, the Human Resources Manager of the company, simply called ‘Stella’, declined comment, saying that she was not in a position to speak for the company. She then referred our correspondent to the Public Relations Manager for official reaction.
