The Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) has expelled 13 students of the Department of Economics.
Many of the students are in their final years.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Angela Freeman Miri, who confirmed this, also clarified the alleged unjust expulsion of one of the affected students, Lydia Lawal.
Lawal, a 400-level student of the Department of Economics, was expelled with some others in 2017 for the leakage of examination papers.
Prof. Miri said the staff disciplinary panel will decide the fate of the members of staff indicted in the scandal.
She said: “These students were expelled before the second convocation in 2017 for alleged exam leakage. Those involved were final year students in the Economics Department. They were suspended and due process was thereafter followed.
“We set up a disciplinary committee and the examination misconduct panel, and the matter was sent to the Senate. At the second to fourth Senate meeting two weeks ago, the indicted students were expelled.
“They have the right to appeal to the examination misconduct appeal committee if they are not satisfied with the Senate’s decision.”
