Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has assured parents of the abducted students of the Lagos State Model Colleges, Igbonla, and other stakeholders that efforts are in top gear to secure the release of the students.
The governor, who spoke yesterday through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Odeyemi Adeshina, during the final stage of the schools governor’s quiz competition, empathized with both the victims and their parents. He added that the resolve of his administration to educate all Lagos children and equip them for the future would not be derailed by any individual or group of criminals.
He said; “Let me assure you that the state government is working round the clock to ensure the release of the abducted students of the Model College, Igbonla. We empathize with them and their parents and we will not relent in our efforts until the students come back unhurt to continue their education.
“We will not allow any group of people to distract us from our goal of educating all Lagos children and equip them for the future.” Ambode said the commitment of his administration to the education sector informed the decision to allocate more than N250 billion to the sector within the last two years of his administration, saying the allocations are far more than the annual total budget of 23 states of the federation.
