The loss of a loved one is in itself painful. However, when you are accused of killing that person, it becomes all the more devastating, especially if it is someone with whom you have spent a better part of your life.
This is the case of a certain Mrs Ezeaka, who is currently trying to prove her innocence in the death of her husband after hiding his corpse from his kinsmen.
She was spotted with a coffin earlier today at about 9:30AM in Oko, Anambra State. According to reports, the woman’s blind husband, Martin Ezeaka, had died yesterday morning, but instead of her to report his demise to his kinsmen, she locked up his corpse, went to the bank and made a withdrawal of N500,000. The money is said to be the exact amount paid by the buyer of a land her husband sold before his death. It is also rumoured that before she left her husband’s house yesterday, she moved all her belongings to an undisclosed location; and did not return home same day.
Then she reappeared this morning with a coffin to carry the corpse of her husband. Unfortunately, her late husband’s kinsmen who had gotten wind of the demise of their brother, laid in wait for her return, so that when she approached a roundabout before her house, they accosted her.
While some are already accusing her of having a hand in the death of her husband, considering that she treated him poorly when he was alive, others are holding their grounds that it is a taboo for a woman to purchase her husband’s coffin. Many others, however, are struggling to understand why she hid her husband’s corpse only to return almost 24 hours later.
Neighbours and eyewitnesses to the incident confirmed that the woman acts erratic most times, which suggests that she might actually be mentally unstable, but how could a supposedly ‘mad’ woman reason much as to not report the death of her husband, move her belongings, lock up the corpse, and then proceed to withdraw a huge sum of N500,000?
Hopefully, the matter will be resolved soon and amicably, to allow the dead some rest.
Mr Martin Ezeaka hailed from Ezioko village, Oko in Anambra State.
